A week since the public sector challenge and I’m still impressed with myself and the team for completing it and raising almost £1000 for charity.

Spirits started high at the start of the day, but that was aided by the Wetherspoons breakfast… We were not the only ones in there! We then made a strong start, it was really good fun, seeing parts of London that I’d never seen before let alone walked along. We broke away a bit from Barbara and her husband but still in sight, so we carried on.

It was a sea of purple bobble hats along the route… Great to see…

About halfway we stopped for a small lemonade and a breather. Was so nice to sit down and take the weight off and warm up. We moved on…

This is when is started getting busy as we got to Central London, lots of tourists and the vibe was different but still a sea of purple…

We managed to get to Westminster just as the police were dealing with multiple marches congregating on Parliament. Head down walk on….We then became tourists, stopping for some chips to refuel…

The opportunity to have another sit down at Festival Hall was needed…. Keeping an eye out for Barbara and her husband behind us…. However, at this point it emerged that they were a good hour in front of us. I’m still not sure how they did it.

The last chunk was a bit tough…. Legs and knees and hips were hurting… But we ploughed on, the end was in sight. It was also a sight watching Will gingerly coming down the stairs from the bridges…… I regret to this day not videoing.

By this point Barbara had finished and collected their medals, in the daylight. Finish was amazing (it was now dark) … Such a sense of achievement and team building. MASSIVE thanks to Jonathan Stephenson for organising, nice to chat to him at the end as he gave us our medals. We then retired to a local pub to have a sit down and a well-deserved beer. Great day, great team, great to be in the public sector!

Sunday was a very quiet day but I was really pleased with myself for doing it and surviving and whilst it was tough I didn’t feel too bad.

Oh yeah I did some other stuff this week at work….

A week of resilience. Spent the afternoon with the Resilience team managers on Tuesday which was great. Sorting plans for the year and what we needed to do and not do. Was a great session. Lots on and lots to do!

I chaired the West London Sub Region Resilience Board on Wednesday which is making sure that as a region we are prepared and doing the things we need to. Baptism of fire as was my first one, but I think it went well.

Tune of the week: Tears For Fears — Mad World (Official Music Video)
