There has been a lot in the news this week about the Post Office Horizon IT system and the resulting scandal. Huge problems resulting from the issues and management around the new IT system. I can’t even imagine the impact that this has had but it has been lifechanging for people. It makes you reflect on the work that we do and why we do it — sometimes the processes around IT and Digital can feel cumbersome and bureaucratic but we do them for a reason — to ensure things like this don’t happen. We have been doing a lot on the processes for getting things done, building on the work over the last year around the IT processes. This is all even more important at a time where AI and emerging technologies are being developed at pace, we have to get it right — especially in the public sector. I saw this post on Linked, from Sam Nutt, LOTI, about the importance of ensuring we get these things right. https://www.linkedin.com/posts/sam-nutt-384b95151_generative-ai-with-kurt-frary-and-sam-nutt-activity-7153061863629422592-8JIz?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop

Tuesday saw a day in Hounslow House for a few face-to-face meetings. The Planning Project meeting with the supplier. Whilst homeworking is great, there is nothing like being in the same room with people. We had a two-hour meeting going into the real detail of the Planning system project and I feel like we made more progress in those two hours that the last two weeks. It also helped that there was face to face training taking place as well which has moved things along as well. Nearly there!

In London on Wednesday with Loti for one of our face-to-face meetings. Always good to catch up with colleagues across London. This event was really focused on innovation and sharing and was very unstructured, and I mean that in a positive way. Eddie and the team created multiple opportunities for colleagues to chat and share what we need and what we could share with others. Some good conversations and always reassuring that we are all heading the same way and have similar challenges.

Wednesday evening was the Digital Strategy Board for Members where we went through the Digital Portfolio and the Digital Inclusion Commitment. Positive updates and good conversations all round especially in the Inclusion work, reviewing in a bit more detail the red projects we have currently.
