2.22 — the one with new starter induction…after 9 months…

We had the first of our all staff briefings with the Finance and Resources Directorate this week, Clive usually has an annual get together of the whole directorate and therefore was virtual this year. It was good to hear from all the other areas of Clive’s Directorate on what they are doing as part of the recovery phase of the pandemic and longer term. I updated on the digital journey and what we are thinking with the next steps with moving into the recovery phase. We are repeating this on Tuesday, will need to remember what I said!

Tuesday we had a retrospective of the major incident that we had the other week using an online tool that I had seen someone online mention (and for the life of me now I can’t remember who it was, apologies…)… We used https://retrotool.io/ and in half an hour reviewed the issue, the technology, the wider comms and lots more besides. We used one of their templates (Liked / Learnt / Lacked) — and worked really well. Would definitely recommend to others!

Thursday I had my formal new starter induction for the Council. The Council had been revamping the induction before the pandemic but had not had chance to put them in place. Obviously it was online this week, and over 100 new starters joined the online event with the Leader, Niall, Steve Whitehead(Director of HR and OD). There were some really interesting presentations and then questions and answers coming from the attendees. A couple of IT ones that Niall directed my way and the team have been working on since. Really good to hear from people and hopefully we get a couple of things, that have clearly been affecting some teams, sorted, as a result of the induction!

The Council launched it’s new set of values this week, at the staff briefing with Niall (CEX) and Steve Whitehead (Director of HR and OD). These have been in development for the past 6 months or so and have involved the majority of staff. All staff have been invited to be involved across a number of events — conversations, workshops and so on… Will speak more about these in future weeks.

As I mentioned last week I have been standing for SOCITM Vice President over the past couple of weeks, so a lot of this week has been basically pestering people (in a nice way…I hope) to vote for me. Am very grateful for the people who have taken the time to vote for me and will let everyone knows what happens next week. Results are announced at the SOCITM conference on Tuesday.
